Amsterdam, 1940. Jacobus, a young mattress maker, watches his world change as the Germans invade the Netherlands, threatening his cozy life in a canal-lined city. He would love to focus on the intriguing Jewish girl who just immigrated from Germany, but outside forces have different plans.
